DownByTheRiver9 A while ago BBC Introducing said of George Boomsma - ‘If it were possible for Nick Drake and Thom Yorke to collaborate, it might sound something like this’. There are moments on this album when it is just that, 2+30 is an amazing experimental tune that has elements of Radiohead/The Smile instrumentation combined with Drake like lyrical content. Favorite track: 2 + 30.

Fallen 05:45
Should I listen closer to the world that's spinning round? What love could ever be heard? Nothing of a question when my life is here without A notion of anything so human. Oh, fallen in my arms again What an indecision for a certain time of day. What lies hidden in disguise? Do they even notice that my life is here without? Oh Brother, what did you discover?
2.
The promise of spring will come surely, so they tell me But I will be open to a thawing in my own sweet time. I don't know why, it's more than now and then, I close my eyes to see you again. Falling free to someone Petty in the mean time Because I place my hands on a core, frozen, through a broken door.
3.
Although I am often tired, whether sorrow, whether denial From the moment I fell in arms, she always welcome my Lily of the Nile I am lost, some might say but she's there calling out my name No need to reply, she moves in and holds her heart with mine. There is hollow that often teases me with sickness for none to see And yet she says there is pride to be in a certain someone's quiet company. I am lost, certain days when I fear in a bitterness of ways No need to be kind, she moves in and holds her heart with mine. I am lost, it's never said, she knows when I'm in my head No need to be fine, she moves in and holds her heart with mine.

2 + 30 03:43
2 + 30 birthday by and by Empty as a kettle in denial Some living day, coloured in grey. As a sister she begins to see Older than the elder she will be How does it feel? Not half surreal. What a sibling, seldom taken five For a soul that feels far from alive Such love to lend, straight through the bend.
5.
A fleeting beat, an urge to follow In the mid of winter's rain and snow. A silent cry filled with sorrow 'Tis the season of men so low. It is all I can to save from a morning's cashmere grey I will hide my inhibitions From the family and all friends As I seethe my own reflection A brother's welcome, the monthly trend.
6.
Morning coffee, a cup of tea too So get out of bed son, he's playing the fool. Johnnie Walker guy. He was a cigarette smoker, the wheezing kind Dominoes and poker, he cleans up alright Never playing by the rules or a part-time smile And I called him my brother, the Johnnie Walker guy. Perpetual snoozer, ain't got no alarm And all the doctors and all the nurses, the boy had them charmed.
7.
To roam to the horizon as the border tends to eat at my bones Watching and waiting back home Here in the house where I am supposed to feel safe and so warm Passing the silence of a broken door. The year brings such a summer, so why does the weather always feel frozen cold? Taking the time off to show I'm someone breathing, don't stare at the ceiling Take the long way back home Passing the silence of a broken door. Am I willing to wander far from home? Passing the silence of a broken door.
8.
Open Curtain 04:13
And why should I even begin here tonight? When everyone everywhere else dreams of life. For how could I undertake all grief to say? The numb and encumbered perpetual grey. So how can I open the curtain, the curtain is already open. Now someone has offered a way I should try, Just give it a go and have nothing to hide. That's all well and good when you've got things to share, No man alive wants to be heard in despair.

about

The Promise Of Spring is a reflection on grief for the loss of a family member, comprising of eight carefully crafted songs that demonstrate George's versatility as both a songwriter and a musician. This new album presents a big step-up in terms of sound from previous releases, with George's pure voice and tumbling acoustic guitar now accompanied by a full band whose understated but sweeping production lifts the songs to new heights, whilst always leaving enough room for George's sincerity to shine through.

The album features Ally McDougal on the drums, Will Looms and Jack Gillen on electric guitars, and Harry Fausing Smith on strings and string arrangements. The physical copies of the album are tied together by snippets of George's childhood family recordings, adding to the overall sense of nostalgia and reiterating the deeply personal and thoughtful nature of this collection of songs.

"I don't know why, it's more than now and then, I close my eyes to see you again..."
